nikola tesla

Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American engineer, born July 10, 1856. He was a major contributor to the widespread success of commercial electricity. Although he is best known for developing modern alternating current, his theoretical work was the foundation of modern day wireless communications and radio. Tesla was a very recognizable figure in his day, but towards the end of his life he became more reclusive and eccentric, epitomizing  the "mad scientist" role. He died January 7, 1943 alone and in poor economic standing in a New York City hotel, and his fame died down - so much so that an overwhelming majority of RCK or any other group of students probably couldn't tell you who he was. Another interesting bit: he resigned working for Thomas Edison after redesigning Edison's inefficient motors and generators because Edison welched on the pay.
